I recently had the pleasure of making a trip down to Haiti with some friends. From earthquakes and hurricanes to poverty and hunger, Haiti is a country with enormous challenges and opportunities to make a difference. It was an incredible experience to spend some time there. I loved every minute of it.

Our gracious travel guides, Justin and Whitney Henwood, are the founders of a wonderful charity called Believe in Haiti. The mission of the organization is to keep families together through love, education, and service. Most Haitian families face food insecurity. School is expensive and many families can’t to send their children. There is also an orphan crisis – fueled by economic insecurity and other issues. Believe in Haiti has helped alleviate

My accountant and past client asked me to go fly fishing a few weeks back. It was an all day guided trip on the South Platte River in private water. We fished all morning, ate lunch, and then fished all afternoon until we were tired. I had a blast and caught some great fish! Guided trips are great for beginners - all you have to do is show up! All of the necessary equipment is provided - rods, reels, waders, flies, leaders - even lunch!

Suggested items to bring:

  • Warm socks
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Camera
  • Sunglasses

Here’s a great vacation suggestion, from my family to yours:

The Black Hills of South Dakota offers everything I look for in a perfect family vacation: adventure, history, wildlife and ice cream! My family and I recently drove to Mount Rushmore and were overwhelmed with its beauty. Our kids are little – we have three under the age of 6. We visited the Great Plains and national and state parks, and there were dozens of activities that kept both kids and parents entertained.

Road-tripping to South Dakota from Denver is simple. I-25 north through Wyoming is the fastest and safest choice. Our total drive time was less than six hours, including play breaks for the little ones. Know that there can be long stretches of road with not many rest stops

My beautiful wife Megan has given me so much through our 7 years together – unconditional love, unwavering support, 3 amazing children -- so I wanted to do something special for her birthday. Forget the hassles of airline travel and out-of-town trips. Downtown Denver has everything I wanted to put together a great weekend! And as we all embark on this holiday season, treating yourself to a night or weekend out is a great gift idea - - one that creates memories and maybe the beginnings of a new holiday tradition!

The first, most important reservation I made was with my in-laws, who took our 5-, 3- and 1-year-olds for the weekend!

I booked us a room at the legendary Hotel Teatro in downtown Denver. “Teatro,” as you might guess, is Italian

Stand-up Paddleboarding, known as SUP, is a sport that is absolutely exploding in the Front Range. Those that rent or sell boards can't seem to keep them in stock. For those that must try SUP, following are some top spots to paddle board either in Denver Metro or are close enough for a day trip:

Aurora Reservoir
5800 Powhaton Road, Aurora
Travel Time: 40 minutes
Cost: $10 vehicle entry fee

More than 800 acres of water surface make the Aurora Reservoir one of the city’s largest and prettiest parks. The setting is more prairie than mountain, but the fact that there’s no motorized boating makes up for the lack of views. SUP rentals are first-come-first-serve and cost $10 per hour with a $20 deposit. Paddle and life jacket included. You’ll need your
