My beautiful wife Megan has given me so much through our 7 years together – unconditional love, unwavering support, 3 amazing children -- so I wanted to do something special for her birthday. Forget the hassles of airline travel and out-of-town trips. Downtown Denver has everything I wanted to put together a great weekend! And as we all embark on this holiday season, treating yourself to a night or weekend out is a great gift idea - - one that creates memories and maybe the beginnings of a new holiday tradition!

The first, most important reservation I made was with my in-laws, who took our 5-, 3- and 1-year-olds for the weekend!

I booked us a room at the legendary Hotel Teatro in downtown Denver. “Teatro,” as you might guess, is Italian

We had an opportunity to eat at the Mahogany Ridge Brewery and Grill during our visit to Steamboat. We went with our friends Eric and Michelle with their three kids and our three kids. Mahogany Ridge is a family friendly restaurant - and there was no wait!

We ordered the Blackened Salmon Noodle Bowl which was pan seared and served with ginger rice and fresh vegetables with mango salsa, and the Maple Glazed Chicken Breast stuffed with cranberries and pecans and served over wild rice pilaf with cider green chile and porter cream sauces. All the different flavors and textures worked really well together.

We give Mahogany Ridge five stars and would recommend it to anyone! We will definitely go back when visiting Steamboat again.

This past weekend, we had an opportunity to meet up with friends in Steamboat Springs. We had a fabulous, action-packed adventure. Following is our collective list of the top 9 must-do's when visiting Steamboat:

1. Steamboat Pro Rodeo: It's a great small town rodeo. It's always fun to watch the cowboys, see the bull riding, calf roping and the bucking broncos. As an added bonus, they serve delicious barbecue chicken and ribs with potato salad and beans. Delicious!
2. Breakfast at Creekside Cafe: A must-eat-at spot when visiting Steamboat Springs. Enjoy breakfast or lunch while sitting under an umbrella on their picturesque patio located next to Soda Creek. Creekside has a small town feel with everything made from scratch, cut by hand,

20140628_100412The Creekside Cafe and Grill is a must-eat-at spot when visiting Steamboat Springs. Enjoy breakfast or lunch while sitting under an umbrella on their picturesque patio located next to Soda Creek. Creekside has a small town feel with everything made from scratch, cut by hand, fresh-squeezed and prepared with with highest quality ingredients. We stopped in for breakfast and ordered the huevos eggs benedict, crab cake benedict and waffles with fresh berries. The waffles were thin and crisp and served with flavorful seasoned potatoes. custardCulver's Frozen Custard and Butterburgers will be opening a restaurant on Mainstreet and Dransfeldt (across from August Moon). With roots to Wisconsin, Culver's was founded by the son of a cheesemaker and grandson of a Wisconsin farmer, a combination that is ideal for creating the perfect Butterburger. For those who have never experienced Culver's, a "butterburger" a beef patty topped just the way you want it and served on a lightly buttered toasted bun.

Culver's is also known for their fresh homemade frozen custard made throughout the day. They offer 80 different custards, such as caramel cashew, cherry cheesecake, chocolate covered banana and mint explosion. When you visit Culver's, remember to ask: "What's today's Flavor of the Day?"

20140517_175533We were on our way to ModMarket off of Colorado Blvd this past weekend, when a sign for Bruxie Gourmet Waffle Sandwiches caught our eye. Combining the words "waffle" and "sandwich" together peaked our interest enough to pull in to try it. We are so glad we did!

20140517_180054Bruxie is a new take on the traditional sandwich using an authentic Belgian waffle instead of bread. Their waffles are light, airy, crispy and not sweet - and are only 250 calories each! Bruxie menu items include savory and sweet waffle sandwiches, fresh salads, Wisconsin frozen custard, shakes, sundaes, floats and old fashioned cane sugar sodas. We tried the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffle with chili honey and cider slaw and the Roasted Turkey Club with applewood bacon, gruyere, avacado,

20140430_124119We went to Parry's Pizza in Parker to celebrate Max's 5th birthday! Parry's is a great place to go when you're craving authentic New York style pizza. Their crust is fantastically, super thin and their tomato sauce is very fresh and flavorful.

At Parry's you'll find pizza, calzones, pastas, sandwiches and salads. Their pizzas have New York themes, such as Central Park Parmesan (a chicken pizza with herbs and parmesan) and South Harlem Taco (a pizza with ground beef, salsa, tortilla chips, tomatoes and cheddar cheese).

There are four Parry's Pizza locations in Denver metro:
